Losing Weight and Workout Woes

Losing Weight and Workout Woes

In order to lose weight for the long term, you have to exercise. You can start easy with walking around the block and gradually increase your aerobic activity. Sadly, a lot of people stop due to the aches and pains of exercise. Before you give up your exercise routine because you discover that exercising makes you sore, you should know what might be causing your workout woes.

Accessories

This might sound crazy, but some aches and pains actually come from our fashion accessories rather than exercising. For instance, wallets, backpacks, handbags, and totes can all cause headaches, backaches, and leg pains. So take a look at your lifestyle and your workout when deciding where your pain is coming from.

Proper Stretching

It is extremely important to stretch properly before beginning any form of exercise for weight loss.

People who stretch get fewer injuries and are more likely to stick with an exercise program.

The more you stretch, the more your muscles will be warmed up and ready for the physical activity that is about to ensue. In addition to stretching before exercising, you should end your routine by stretching at the end of your activity.

Heat and Ice

You can relieve sore muscles is by using heat and ice. Hot showers after a workout can alleviate the onset of sore muscles. Likewise, icing a muscle can keep swelling down and relieve minor pains or irritation.

Anti-inflammatories

Anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen can also prevent muscle soreness and relieve muscle pain and swelling. Anti-inflammatories can be taken prior to working out to prevent the soreness that often occurs 24 to 48 hours after that initial workout.

Fluids

If you do not consume enough fluids, it may increase your muscle soreness or even result in cramping. Sports drinks and water are extremely beneficial in preventing dehydration. Water is also calorie and fat free so drinking water when trying to lose weight is just a good decision.

Sleep

Believe it or not, the proper amount of sleep can affect how your muscles recover after a workout. Lack of sleep can prolong the soreness in a muscle group whereas proper sleep can help the muscles repair and rejuvenate at a faster pace.

Take a look at your workout routine and see what you may or may not be doing to help your muscles heal. The last thing you want to do is give up on exercising due to soreness. Managing and preventing pain is part of staying motivated to exercise and to stick with your weight loss plan. Successful weight loss and exercise go hand in hand.
