Get a Workout Partner

On almost everyone’s list of New Year’s resolutions is the resolution to get fit. After a month or so it gets harder and harder to make that goal of losing weight. One way to increase your chances of reaching your goals is to get a workout partner.

Motivation

Knowing that you have made a promise to meet someone and that you are counted on to show up can motivate you to get to the workout. The bonus motivation is that you are contributing to the well being of your partner, making it not all about you.

Socializing

Getting to catch up with your friend is a great motivation to do your workout. Joining a gym or trying a new sport are less challenging when you have a partner. If you both join a workout group then you will have even more friends with similar interests.

Challenges

A workout partner can get you to try something new. Alternate which partner plans the workout and you will find yourself exploring new ways to keep fit. It also allows you do activities that take two like tennis, basketball, or hiking (for safety).

Safety

When you get a workout partner it means that if you are out running and get hurt, you have someone who can help you. It is also safer to walk at night or early morning if you have someone else along.
