Delicious Diet Spreads

Need a little variety in your weight loss snacks? Try a delicious diet spread to add a little flavor to your meals or snacks. You can prepare them ahead of time, and they will keep for two to three days in the fridge if covered well.

Banana Diet Spread

Try the banana diet spread for a delicious alternative to low fat cream cheese or peanut butter. Simply mash half of a banana, add a no calorie sweetener like Splenda and a dash of cinnamon. You can even add a drop of vanilla and a teaspoon of raisins for extra flavor. Without the raisins, this spread is only 50 calories. It is easy to make and goes perfectly with your weight loss plan.

Sandwich Spread

If you want to add a little flavor to your sandwiches, but not stray from your weight loss plan, try this spicy sandwich spread. Use plain yogurt, one chili adobo, Dijon mustard and salt and pepper. The result is a spicy, tasty, but low fat, low calorie spread that makes a great addition to your weight loss menu.

Another way to create delicious sandwich spreads is to use olives. Use fat free or low fat cream cheese, fat free mayonnaise, chopped green olives, pecans, olive juice and a dash of pepper. The result is a tasty spread full of healthy oils from the olives and protein from the pecans.

Hummus Spread

My favorite weight loss tip is to eat hummus. I absolutely love hummus, but you have to be really careful of the hummus sold in stores. Often they are full of added fat and calories. The best hummus is one that is made at home. Chop up garbanzos and season with tahini (sesame seed paste), lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper, and your result is healthy home made hummus. You can make variations with red bell peppers, olives, or artichokes.

Adding spreads to your weight loss plan provides options that you might not have otherwise considered. We often think of spreads as fattening, but spreads can be made with ingredients that benefit a healthy diet.
