Combine Foods for Weight Loss

Food combining may seem difficult but it can be done in small steps. If you learn about certain types of food and how they interact with each other in your body then this weight loss tip can help you actually start achieving visible weight loss in a short amount of time.

Food Absorption and Weight Loss

Eating certain foods with or without each other can impede absorption and cause adverse reactions. It is important to understand not only how your body reacts to food to absorb all of the nutrients you give it, but also how it can have a large impact on your weight loss attempts. Through proper food combining you can burn fat better and avoid bloating and gas. It aids in digestion which can help reduce multiple conditions as well.

In order to understand food combining you need to learn about the different food types. Very simply, your food is broken down into:

  • Proteins
  • Carbohydrates
  • Non-starchy vegetables and greens
  • Fruit

All of the different types of food require different digestion times. By eating certain foods together, such as proteins and carbohydrates, you are not allowing your body adequate time to digest either food type correctly. This can significantly defeat your weight loss goals.

What to Eat and When

Instead, avoid eating proteins and carbohydrates together. You can eat protein for lunch and carbohydrates for dinner; just do not eat them together during the same meal.

Non-starchy vegetables and greens can be eaten with either carbohydrates or protein, so you do not have to have a skimpy looking meal. Add vegetables or greens to your protein meal and also to your carb meal so that you can increase your vegetable intake without harming your weight loss.

Fruit is another food type that should be consumed without any other food type. Fruit is quickly digested so it is best consumed on an empty stomach such as in the morning or in-between mealtimes.

If you eat fruit along with protein, carbs, or even vegetables, it will not be able to get digested because your body will be busy working on the other food types. If you get bloated from eating fruit there is a good chance that you are combining it with other food types.

Learning how to combine food for weight loss is challenging, but by starting out with the simple concepts outlined above you can start to lose weight more efficiently.
